Our customer - a major Telecoms Service Provider - had stripped out a server hall in their datacentre and needed it re-fitted as a Transport Room to accommodate new fibre infrastructure and backbone telecoms equipment, including Ciena OME6500 nodes.
Working to tight timescales, Gem Cable fitted 11 equipment racks, 1 patching frame, 17 ETSI racks. 7 fibre distribution frames and 5 DC distribution cabinets.
We then installed overhead ADC Fibreguide over the three new rows of cabinets and frames, and constructed a new riser to link the room to the hall above. Copper and fibre ties were then installed from the new Transport room to existing data halls within the facility, and terminated within the various racks and patching frames.
In total, 1728 OS1 singlemode fibre cores were installed utilizing 144-core fibres between rooms, requiring 3456 fusion splices, plus 60 x Cat.5e links to various data halls.
DC power feeds were run to the equipment racks, and fibre and copper cross-connects installed between racks, with comprehensive labeling applied from day one to assist with future troubleshooting.
To cap off the project, Gem were asked to also supply some of the ancillary services, such as the first-aid station and ESD wristband test point.
